Process and timeline
How long does pool resurfacing take?
Most pool resurfacing projects take one to two weeks from drain to refill. The steps are: drain the pool, chip out the failed finish, prep and repair the surface, install any new tile or coping, apply the new finish by hand, then refill and start the water chemistry. Plaster and quartz cure faster than pebble. Weather, the condition of the old surface, and any structural repairs can add a few days. How long does a full remodel take?
A full pool renovation usually runs three to six weeks depending on scope and weather. A project that is only a surface and tile refresh is on the shorter end. How long does it take to build a new pool?
Most new pools in Florida take eight to sixteen weeks from permit to first swim. The phases are design and contract, permitting and engineering, excavation, steel and plumbing, the gunite shell and cure, tile and deck, the interior finish, then fill and startup. Do you handle permits?
Yes. When a project needs permits, we pull them and coordinate the required inspections as part of the job. That includes the engineering and permit paperwork for new construction and major remodels, plus any HOA approvals common in newer Tampa Bay subdivisions. What is the most durable pool finish?
Pebble finishes like Pebble Tec are the most durable and longest lasting, often 15 to 20 years or more, which is why they carry the highest price. The small natural stones resist staining and chemical wear better than any other finish, making pebble a strong choice for Florida sun and salt systems. Quartz, such as Diamond Brite, is a durable mid range option that lasts 10 to 12 years and adds color choices. Standard white plaster is the budget option at 7 to 10 years. Because pebble lasts so long, it often has the lowest cost per year.
How long does a pool finish last?
It depends on the material and your water chemistry. Standard plaster (marcite) lasts about 7 to 10 years, quartz finishes like Diamond Brite last 10 to 12 years, and pebble finishes like Pebble Tec last 15 to 20 years or more. Balanced water and regular maintenance extend the life of any finish, while neglected chemistry shortens it. If your finish is rough, stained, flaking, or losing material, it is at the end of its life and ready to resurface.
Should I switch to a salt system?
A salt system makes chlorine automatically from salt, so the water feels softer and you handle far less chlorine by hand. It is popular in Florida where pools run most of the year. The trade-off is a higher up-front cost, roughly $1,500 to $3,000 installed, and the salt cell is a wear part that needs replacing every few years. A salt pool is not chlorine free, it just generates chlorine on site. For most homeowners the convenience and water feel are worth it over time.
